Plovdiv City

Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria with a population of about 3.5 million people. It is located in the western part of the Upper Thracian Plain. The city is built at the foot of six hills, which is why it is often called the "City under the hills." Plovdiv is a city of over 8000 years. Life in the city has never stopped, which places it among the most ancient permanently inhabited cities in the world. The six hills in Plovdiv are: "Nebet tepe", "Dzhambaz tepe", "Taksim tepe", "Dzhendem tepe", "Bunardzhik" and "Sahat tepe". Maritza River passes through the city. The part of the river which passes through the city is about 13 km long.
