Samuil's Fortress

Samuil's fortress is located between Belasitsa and Ograzhden mountains, 5 km. north of the village of Kluch. It was built probably during the period 1009-1013 during the reign of Tsar Samuil. Three complicated constructions made of stones, wooden beams and mud defended the fortress. Two deep ditches were dug around it. A wooden observation tower and a defensive one were built on the top of the hill. Their foundations talk about its scope. The place is quiet and pleasant for a walk.
