"St. Alexander Nevsky" Cathedral, Sofia City
"St. Alexander Nevsky" Cathedral was built in memorium of the Russian emperor Aleksander II, also called "Tsar Liberator". The Cathedral has an impressive marble decoration beautiful frescoes and icons - works of Bulgarian and Russian artists. Initially the Cathedral was decided to be built in Veliko Tarnovo. It can accommodate about 5000 people. It is panelled with white Vratza stone and the domes are gilded. In the crypt of the Cathedral there is a museum with icons.
