"St. Athanasius the Great" Monastery, Zlatna Livada Village
"St. Athanasius the Great" Monastery is located on a hill above the village of Zlatna Livada. There is an exit from Maritza highway wihch leads to the village. It is believed to be the oldest monastery in Europe since according to historical data St. Athanasius, Archbishop of Alexandria, founded the monastery in 344 AD. As it is believed he stayed near Beroe (present-day Stara Zagora) and founded a monastery. The place for the construction of the monastery was not chosen by chance - the important road Constantinople - Serdica once passed near the holy cloister.
