"The Defenders of Stara Zagora" Memorial complex
"The Defenders of Stara Zagora" Memorial complex is dedicated to the fights for Stara Zagora from July 31 1877, during the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation. It was opened in 1977, in honour of the centenary of the event. There are 100 steps to the monument, and an ossuary is located at its foundations. A sculpture with six Bulgarian volunteers and a Russian officer symbolises the power of the six Bulgarian troops who under the command of the Russian officers, enter combat for the first time.
